Earlier in the week, I had the privilege of presenting a sweet girl, Ana, her gift from my dear friends who are her sponsors back at home. She is shy and quiet, but always has the most tender of words for me to bring home. This year, I had the foresight to video it. Today was our last day in Pampay. As we were leaving, I saw sweet Ana walking towards me with a package in her hand. With the help of one of the AOJ workers, she handed me a package, asking me to please bring it back to her sponsor family. Yes, I cried. I was completely overwhelmed by the sweet gesture of a beautiful young girl.
As I packed up my bag, I carefully opened the package from Ana. Inside, I found gifts more precious than any physical gift I have ever given or received. Inside was a hand embroidered table runner. Clearly used, and likely one of the most precious pieces this poor family owned. She also packaged up a beautiful traditional shirt. Pure white lace with hand embroidered roses around the neck. The detail is amazing. It is obviously, again, one of her best. And yet she has chosen to give her best away.
It amazes me really. I mean, she has so little. And she gave her best away. How is it that those who have so little are willing to give away so much. Yes those of us who have so much are willing to give away so little.

"Not called!'" did you say? "Not heard the call," I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear Him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help.
Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters and servants and masters not to come there.
Then look Christ in the face ~whose mercy you have professed to obey ~ and tell Him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish His mercy to the world.
