Today I built a house. In Guatemala. Without breaking a nail! I did hit my thumb with the hammer though. I realized that there is a reason I hang pictures by nailing a finishing nail in to the wall with the heal of a dress shoe: I am not so good with a hammer. Putting on the nuts and bolts? I can do that. Using the drill? I can totally do that! Framing a window with nails? Yah... not so much. I moved on to painting. I can do that.
In the end, we built two 16feet by 20 feet, 2 room houses in the village of Parramos. The families would now have a safe, dry place to live. The They will move their living and sleeping areas out of their tin shacks in to their new homes, and we will return later this week to bless the homes with them.
Aside from being fun, the experience was also very humbling. Having the opportunity to provide families with the basics of life.... a home.... is an experience that is special each time I do it, and that if you let it, will change you.

"Not called!'" did you say? "Not heard the call," I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear Him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help.
Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters and servants and masters not to come there.
Then look Christ in the face ~whose mercy you have professed to obey ~ and tell Him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish His mercy to the world.
