"Not called!'" did you say? "Not heard the call," I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear Him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help.

Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters and servants and masters not to come there.

Then look Christ in the face ~whose mercy you have professed to obey ~ and tell Him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish His mercy to the world.

~follow me~

About 2 weeks ago I attended my first planning meeting for our trip to Guatemala. As we took turns introducing ourselves and stating our roles (medical vs Vacation Bible School), my heart was blessed. God had called each and every one of us there for a purpose. His purpose.

As the planning continued, and tasks were assigned (teaching, music lessons, crafts...) it was clear that one team member was growing anxious about her apparent lack of a role. "What am I going to do?" she inquired. One of the team leaders responded, explaining that people were needed to supervise the children at each of the Vacation Bible School activities. "But I want to do something! I want to teach!" Again, one of the leaders responded, explaining that the teaching would be done by our Spanish speaking team member, and that people were needed to gather the children saying "follow me." Becoming more frustrated, the team member stood up and waved us off stating "follow me... follow me... well surely someone else could do that. Clearly I am not needed here", and left.

The meeting continued on as if nothing had happened. In fact, I left wondering if I was the only one who had seen this production! What bothered me most was the lack of appreciation for two simple words: Follow Me.

Over the weeks, that scene ran through my head. But so did another one. It was the scene around Jesus after He spoke the words "let the little children come unto Me". I envisioned a keen young man who stood near by and saw first hand the joy on His face when the children surrounded Him. This young man, knowing what would please Jesus ran to a near by village gathering up the children... "Follow me" he said. "Follow me." And to the Lords feet, a flock of young children ran.

A task that seemed apparently meaningless is really the core of our trip to Pampay. Follow me children! Come with me! Let me show you who Jesus is! Let me take you to Him!
Follow me.
